Life
began in Kansas City, MO., in 1932, the second of four children. Graduated
Northeast High School in 1949 and after graduation married my high school
sweetheart Gwen. We have produced four lovely daughters who in turn
delighted us with 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren (so far).
Having always had a talent for art and drawing since childhood, it was a
natural progression that landed my first art job in 1950 at Postlethwaite
Adv., in K.C. When our first daughter was 10 days old, the U.S. Marine's
shipped me to Korea for a year, but on return to K.C., I resumed my job at
Postlethwaite and a drawing board.
Basically, my art training came on-the-job, boosted by a correspondence
course from Famous Artists and night classes at the K.C. Art Institute. My
commercial art career took a definite upturn when I joined Moyer-Crandall
Art Studio in K.C. Later I became a free-lance artist which ultimately
brought me and my family to Amarillo, TX., and a partnership in
Advertising Inc. After a year I joined McCormick Adv. of Amarillo and
subsequently alternated between McCormick and free-lancing, ultimately
opening a successful art studio for a number of years.
During the Art Studio years, I created the “Bluebird” series of “McCaulley
Did It” cartoon book and prints. I have also participated in a number of
art shows over the years as well as galleries in Santa Fe, NM., Taos, NM.,
and San Antonio, TX.
While still doing some commercial work, my love of art has led me to fine
art, primarily oils and more specifically Western Art...and still
cartooning for out-lets such as Leanin' Tree Greeting Cards of Boulder,
CO.
Having increasingly preferred to stay closer to home, I have opened
Bluebird Art Gallery in Amarillo, TX. Drop by for a visit. |
